A Woodland Ceremony
Saturday, May 18 2024
Emily and Rachael chose a woodland theme for their special day and married in the English Cotswolds. They wanted fuss-free outfits and selected our Evie Lace & Eliza Asymmetric wedding dresses which looked perfect for their boho-inspired celebrations. We love these gorgeous photos.
Where did you meet?
At the University of Sussex. On Emily's 19th Birthday, on a walking society trip during Freshers week. Emily told Rachael where she was living on campus and that she could pop round anytime, and Rachael took her up on that.
Where did you get married and why did you choose that venue?
Cotswold Woodland Glamping. We knew we wanted a relaxed and outdoorsy occasion, with no 'standing on ceremony' for the sake of it. An al fresco ceremony was a natural choice for us, and when we found out about this particular site from a friend, we felt it was absolutely us!
Tell us about the dresses!
We created a Pinterest board for woodland wedding inspiration and liked Boho style dresses. We expected the woodland to be muddy so knew we wanted dresses that were not floor length gowns. We also wanted to show off our boots and wellies!
As two women, we were conscious that we did not want to clash so felt it made sense to go with the same designer. We liked the fact that we were supporting a British designer whose dresses are made in the UK. We don't typically feel comfortable wearing dresses day to day but as soon as we tried these on the material felt soft and comfortable. The dresses just instantly felt like us.
Do you have any advice for other brides planning a wedding?
Don't be afraid to break the conforms of what society expects a wedding to look like. We played with convention of a traditional wedding with one of the brides (Rachael) doing a reading during the ceremony.
We knew we didn't want a traditional table plan with a head table. Instead, we appointed Hog Roast of Gloucestershire to use the BBQ hut on site to provide a delicious BBQ buffet which our guests helped themselves to and then sat at the picnic tables.
We had a legal ceremony the weekend before at our local registry office with six close friends from university and a humanist ceremony at Cotswold Woodland Glamping with our families. A humanist ceremony gives you the opportunity to make the ceremony personalised and bespoke to you.
Any fun facts?
A family member made our Lego themed cake. We had two minifigure bride cake toppers and a bespoke figure of our dog Buzz made by Rachael. Rachael enjoys building Lego sets and we both enjoy visiting the model village at Legoland.
We got engaged on a Disney cruise departing from San Diego and returned recently for our honeymoon.
