A Proposal to Remember
Saturday, January 21 2023
Sue proposed to Kevin exactly 12 months since they met over text message - and they haven't looked back. Keeping it a well hidden secret they invited their closest family and friends to the special day - and were so over the moon with the love and support they received. Sue wears our beautiful Adriana Wedding Gown.
Where did you meet?
We met at work, a mutual friend put us in contact with each other over text message whilst Kevin was away skiing and I was lying by the pool in Cape Verde. We met for coffee every couple of weeks, and developed a great friendship. I waited 3 months for our official first date!
Where did you first get married?
Talbooth Restaurant, on the river Stour near Colchester. We wanted a small intimate wedding venue, that had character and offered really good food. Talbooth is relatively close to home and also has accommodation - Idle Waters (a private cottage across the river) and a choice of hotels nearby.
How did you choose your dress?
I tried on 4 different dresses, they were all by Alie Street. I love the classic look and wanted something that suited my body shape. The Adriana dress fitted really well, and the belt could be added to bring in the waist. I loved how the dress felt when I first put it on - that's when I knew “this is the one!!”
Any advice for brides planning a wedding?
Spend time thinking and talking together about the day the two of you want. Be patient in finding the right venue. Don't rush to make your decisions, sit with them for a few days and decide together. Let your partner choose their outfit and you choose yours…let this be a surprise for you on the day. Know that you'll have highs and lows of how you feel, wobbles of confidence…so have a hair/make up trial, and speak with your photographer, flower and cake suppliers before the big day. Finally, aim to get ready early…I had 1.5 hours to spare so that allowed time for selfies with my parents and a glass of champagne.
Any fun facts to share!?
I proposed to Kevin, 12 months after that first text message, on 16 Jan 2020. I'd chosen a watch and got down on one knee before heading out for some good food. The date was special to us so that's why we chose it as our wedding day, 16 Jan 2023. We were supposed to get fit and diet for the wedding but that never happened, we both enjoy food too much. We only told close family and friends about the wedding beforehand….it's been great to see everyone's reaction now that we have shared the news on social media, we've been overwhelmed by the expressions of love, kind comments, and well wishes. Planning the wedding has been a nice distraction from house renovations and talking about extensions!!
